Lab 3-1: Bluetooth (Who's home?)

In this lab exercise, I am to use Bluetooth to scan for the presence of someone. In order to do so, I needed to see the MAC address of the device I am using, named Joey.

MAC Address: 70-3C:69:17:06:A9

From there, I will key in the MAC address into my program and run it. The picture on the left shows the results. Once the device is 10 meters away, it would not be discoverable and the program will state that "Mummy is out".

My thoughts

I feel that this exercise is interesting and easy to do. This is because we can use Bluetooth to detect if someone is at a location(home, office). This makes it very convenient for bosses to check on their staff, to see if they are at work.

However, this might be invasive as it is easy to locate the "victim"'s whereabouts. Hence, it is important for the user to notify and get consent.

Lab 3-2: Pi Cam

This lab exercise was very interesting as I did not know that the Raspberry Pi also included a camera aspect. The Pi Cam was connected to the CSI Camera Port, where it would input media files to the Raspberry pi. My partner and I had tons of fun experimenting with the Pi Cam!

After some research on the device, I realized that it can be used for security purposes, such as a security camera at the front door. This is possible as the Pi Cam offers a high resolution of 5 megapixels.
